Jake O'Neil tops USMTS stop at Lakeside
Jake had a much more likeable weekend this past weekend on tour with the USMTS as the team entered action at the Lakeside Speedway in Kansas City, KS for a Friday-Saturday doubleheader after Thursday's event was cancelled due to rain. (Todd Boyd photo)
Friday night, Jake was the top qualifier in his group. He then went on to race from 6th up to 2nd in his heat race, which earned him a spot in the night's redraw.
He was able to redraw the outside of the front row and took off en route to the win and the $5,000 payday that went along with it.
Saturday, the team had a tough start and had to climb out of a hole all night long, which they were able to do.
After having to start 8th in his heat race, he raced forward to finish 5th, putting him third in a b-main lineup. He started and finished third in the b, giving him the 20th starting spot in the night's main. From there, he methodically picked cars off lap after lap on his way forward, eventually crossing the finish line with a solid 5th place finish for his efforts.
Overall, it was a solid weekend in KS!
