Jake rallies to sixth-place finish with USMTS at Rocket Raceway Park
Jake kicked off his chase for the $100,000 USMTS championship this past weekend at the Rocket Raceway Park in Petty, TX with a doubleheader weekend event.
After mid-week rains forced the cancellation of the Thursday night event and pushed the Friday event to Sunday, the season officially fired off on Saturday night a whopping 87 competitors in action for the $10,000 to win opener. Jake rolled off from the 9th position in his qualifying heat race and raced forward to fifth, putting him sixth in one of the night's four b-mains. In the b, Jake raced from 6th up to take the third and final transfer spot into the night's feature event, putting him 21st in the feature lineup. In the feature, he was involved in an early altercation, but was able to get back on track and rally from the tail up to a very impressive 6th place finish when the checkered flag flew.
Sunday, he was the second fastest qualifier in his group, putting him fifth in the heat race lineup. In the heat, he raced from fifth up to fourth, then ran third in the b, putting him 21st in the feature field for the second night in a row. In the feature, he ended up getting involved in a crash, ending his night early.
